Tredegar House2

Tredegar House mansion

The House of Hermes traces its roots back to a chapterhouse in London that existed in the early 1800s. They refer to themselves as the HoH, as Hermetic magicians, occultists and occult researchers. While others might call them "sorcerers", the HoH take exception to that term, reserving it for the Scarlet Circle. Some semi-knowledgeable outsiders think that the Scarlet Circle is a group of renegade HoH members but this is incorrect. The situation is quite the opposite with the HoH being formed to combat infernalism by a group of White Magicians in London. The London chapterhouse was destroyed in the 1920s, however, and never recovered.

Only a handful of HoH members reside in the Tredegar Estate. Most have their own homes in Duffryn, Maesglas, and Gaer or elsewhere in Newport. Many of the HoH are academics, doctors, psychologists, public officials and/or scientists who keep their magical studies extremely clandestine. They were often recruited in college or by coming under the attention of existing HoH members. Some have no psychic or magickal gifts after they begin studying with an HoH mentor. A few are kinfolk or kinain but the HoH tries to screen out anyone who seems like they would have a conflict of interest. No one under the age of 21 is officially recruited though several active members have "special" children or wards that might be indirectly involved in the society.

Leadership[]

The HoH was founded by a legendary Hermetic magician named Uriel ben Devi to combat infernalism in the 1100s-1200s in London. The Tredegar Lodge of the HoH began to meet there under the leadership of William Morgan (brother of the legendary bucaneer Henry Morgan) in the 1660s. From 1820 until 1944 the HoH was led by an egnimatic female magician named Alice Mayfield who had blood ties to House Austere Howl. At the end of World War II, however, Alice dissapeared and her son Harold became the new leader. Tredegar House was converted to a private school called St. Joseph's with the HoH still using it as a base of operations. In 1994, Harold Mayfied vanished to be replaced by his son Ian who was killed ten years later in combat against the Scarlet Circle. Since 2004, the HoH has been led by Lloyd Tibbot supported by Logan Mayfield & Jake Regardie.

Places of Power[]

The Tredegar Lodge is elegant and old. It has a beautiful 90 acre park surrounding it. However, it does not have the inherent metaphysical qualities that would make it a good caern or freehold. Some HoH members try to catalogue and observe active "hot spots" of metaphysical activity.

Popular Paths[]

Alchemy, Conjuration, Conveyance, Enchantment, Mana Manipulation, Oneiormancy, Summoning/Binding/Warding, all forms of Psychic Abilities.
